Q - What is Duet Enterprise?
Duet® Enterprise, a product developed jointly by SAP and Microsoft, will help IT serve the business more effectively and enable users to boost their personal and their team’s productivity. The software is planned to provide the foundation for technical interoperability between SAP applications and Microsoft SharePoint as well as tools and business content to rapidly compose solutions blending process and collaborative work. Duet Enterprise will provide ready-to-use capabilities with quick time to value for people to interact with and collaborate around SAP information, participate in SAP workflows, access SAP reports, and use SharePoint ‘MySite’ enriched with human resources information from SAP applications.

Q - What are the capabilities of Duet Enterprise?
Duet Enterprise plans to provide the following capabilities:
Foundation for the interoperability between SAP and Microsoft SharePoint. Key focus areas are: system management, single sign on, authorization and user management, life cycle management, data models mapping, traceability and supportability.
Tools and Business Content to compose solutions that blend the worlds of process and collaboration. Duet Enterprise takes advantage of the respective tools of Microsoft and SAP to reduce IT training. These tools are enriched to support an end-to-end solution development between SAP and Microsoft. In order to accelerate development of Duet Enterprise composites, configurable templates and building blocks will be delivered.
Ready-to-Use capabilities with quick time to value for users for people to interact with and collaborate around SAP information, participate in SAP workflows, access SAP reports, and browse SharePoint ‘MySite’ profile enriched with HR information from SAP applications.
Duet Enterprise utilizes the Microsoft SharePoint capability to extend to Microsoft Office and Mobile.

Many customers have already invested in SAP and Microsoft SharePoint and Office and are looking to generate more value from those investments while increasing IT efficiency. Duet Enterprise increases the reach of SAP to more users and expands the scope of SharePoint to drive incremental business value for these customers. Duet Enterprise is a highly efficient interoperability solution as it utilizes the SAP NetWeaver and Microsoft SharePoint 2010 platforms enabling customers to reuse existing IT skills, systems and development tools. Duet enterprise reduces the barrier to creating solutions that blend SAP and SharePoint 2010 and helps IT to address business needs in a timely and effective manner. Moreover, Duet Enterprise can be used to enable business units to create solutions in their SharePoint environment while keeping IT control and governance of SAP applications.
Q - How will end users benefit from this new product?
Employees expect business solutions to be delivered in familiar environments, to be intuitive and hide complexities. They also have a growing need to enable team collaboration, gain business insight and drive business results. Microsoft SharePoint and Office have been widely adopted as end user work environments while SAP applications run their business critical processes. Duet Enterprise blends SAP with Microsoft SharePoint and Office 2010 combining collaboration and productivity with business data and processes. Business users can benefit from a unified and simplified access to the data and actions they need and as a result, increase their personal and team productivity. Duet Enterprise delivers ready-to-use capabilities with quick time to value for users to collaborate around SAP data, participate in SAP workflows, access SAP reports, and browse SharePoint ‘MySite’ profile enriched with HR information from SAP applications.
Q - When will the product be available?
Duet Enterprise is planned to be released in the second half of 2010. We have recently introduced an early adoption program called Microsoft RDP (Rapid Development Program) for customers and partners get familiar to have an early opportunity to implement the solution. Please contact your MS account representative for further details.
Q - What are the Tools utilized by Duet Enterprise?
Duet Enterprise follows an architecture design utilizing the respective tools of Microsoft and SAP to minimize IT training and reuse the existing customer skill set. These tools are enriched with generator and add-ons to optimize interoperability and support an end-to-end solution development between Microsoft and SAP. For the composition of solution, for example, declarative tools, such as SharePoint designer, for the Business Analyst , Visual studio for the professional .NET developer and ABAP workbench for the SAP professional developer. Duet Enterprise significantly lowers the barrier for composing solution based on SAP and SharePoint and provides templates and building blocks to accelerate the development of Duet Enterprise solutions. Duet Enterprise provides end-to-end management supportability leveraging the standard tools of the respective platforms: System Center (SCOM) from Microsoft and Solution Manager from SAP.

Yes, Duet Enterprise training will be available globally to customers and partners. During the Microsoft RDP program and SAP Ramp-Up Programs, the training is restricted to active participants in the program.
